Welcome to our Retail Studio.
A place to dream up gardens and share our collection of lovingly sourced garden objects.
After 10 years of working professionally with gardens, shaping them, nurturing them and watching them evolve, we are excited to announce a new chapter for Gardener & Son.
We have opened a small retail studio right in the heart of Mont Albert Village, across from the Heritage Plaza and the old Mont Albert train station. It is a beautiful, light-filled space that feels like it was waiting for us. In fact, we discovered it entirely by chance on the way to a garden visit, Natasha spotted a “For Lease” sign in the window and just knew… this was for us.
For years, we ran a busy, hands-on gardening business, employing 12 staff and tending to over 150 gardens across Melbourne’s leafy suburbs. It was a time of growth, learning, and deep connection with so many beautiful spaces and people. But as the business grew, so did the weight of it all. Managing schedules, logistics, and the daily operations of the business became all-consuming.
The studio marked a turning point. It arrived just before a big transition in our lives and business. We made the hard decision to scale down our maintenance division and said goodbye to our team, so we could focus on what we truly love garden design.
Since opening, the support from the local community has been incredible. It’s felt less like meeting customers and more like making friends. We’ve been lucky to get involved in some really meaningful local projects like designing the village planters with heritage apple trees that reflect Mont Albert’s orchard history. These trees are planted with a guild of flowering plants that the community has embraced with so much love.
The studio also became a home for our long-standing love of heirloom and foraged garden objects. Years ago, we had an online side hustle selling nostalgic vintage pieces. That love never left us. There’s something timeless and romantic about a weathered garden ornament—something that tells a story, that speaks to the memory of gardens past.
So now, our Mont Albert studio is both a design hub and a little treasure trove. A place to dream up gardens and share our collection of lovingly sourced garden curiosities.
We are just a humble husband and wife team but this new chapter feels more aligned than ever.
Pop in and say hello. We would love to meet you!
