The Medicinal Tea Garden
A tranquil, secret, purpose driven garden.
Tucked away in a quiet corner, our recently installed "Medicinal Tea Garden" is a place where enchantment and nature meet. Designed with purpose and intention, this tranquil garden provides a sanctuary of healing and connection, along with plenty of tea-making opportunities.
We curated a selection of plants with "witchcraft" qualities, reflecting the ancient herbal knowledge woven into this garden. From the protective Mountain Pepperberry (Tasmania lanceolata) to calming Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis), every plant tells a story and connects uniquely to the garden’s custodian.
A feature we love in this garden is the soft wood shavings path. Laid in at a 500mm thick layer, then compressed, the path provides a barefoot-friendly surface, perfect for grounding, a practice that positively impacts health, mood, and stress levels. This subtle yet sensory design choice allows visitors to connect with nature tangibly.
We carefully contoured the ground to introduce gentle topography. These subtle rises and falls create a sense of natural movement and discovery. Habitat rocks, rugged, igneous basalt pieces, enhance the connection to Melbourne’s geology, providing visual anchors.
A meandering dry riverbed and scattered birch steppers invite visitors to explore, while a delicate watercress water feature adds a hint of life and moisture.
A heirloom French arbour, handcrafted from flat bar steel, was selected from our retail studio, forming a welcoming gateway — a portal into the hidden world beyond.
